One of the ways that Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 (formerly GP 11) delivers on its promises of enhancing insight, making it easier to do business, and extending connections is through its integration with Microsoft Office 2010. There are countless ways that these two solutions work together to create “the new way to do business.”

At Convergence 2010 in Atlanta, Andy Westby, Microsoft Dynamics Sr. Technical Product Manager, and Stephen Elop, president, Microsoft Business Division showcase some examples of the benefits that can be derived from this integration. Here is a video clip from their presentation to give you taste of what Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 and Microsoft Office 2010 can accomplish together:

This white paper describes how the different versions of Office work together with the different versions of SharePoint but primarily focuses on the integration features of Microsoft Office 2010 with Microsoft SharePoint 2010.

Recently, Microsoft released a white paper, “Business Productivity at Its Best: Microsoft Office and Microsoft SharePoint”. This paper describes how the 2010, 2007, and 2003 versions of Office work together with the 2010, 2007, and 2003 versions of SharePoint technologies, but it primarily focuses on the integration features of the Microsoft Office 2010 experience with Microsoft SharePoint 2010.

In this paper, scenarios are outlined to show examples of how the power of SharePoint 2010 can be combined with the capabilities of Microsoft Office 2010 applications to deliver rich, intuitive, and easy-to-use capabilities directly to users.

The scenarios cover the following value areas:

Collaboration Without Compromise: Enable people to respond faster so they’re better equipped to meet deadlines by offering document collaboration with IT control.

Bring Ideas to Life: Provide self-service access to information to help people make more informed business decisions and to reduce the burden of report requests.

Anywhere Access: Enable people to access and respond to information securely from virtually anywhere with confidence that content changes and fidelity are maintained across locations and devices. Help people stay productive anywhere—online or offline—whether they’re working at the office, at a customer site, on the road, or from home, with the tools that seamlessly synchronize online and offline changes.

The Practical IT Platform: Unlock more value from LOB systems while helping people across the organization increase productivity. Streamline content creation and publishing and automate business processes to empower users to quickly respond to competitive market pressure.

Bring Ideas to Life Scenario
Below is one of the examples in the white paper that shows how Microsoft Office and SharePoint can provide people with self-service access to sales information to analyze massive data sets.

To conclude, Microsoft Office 2010, when used with Microsoft SharePoint 2010, maximizes existing investments by extending server and services capabilities to people’s desktops, mobile devices, and browsers through familiar and intuitive applications. It is reiterated that while Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 provide much new and improved functionality compared to previous versions, the combined deployment of the latest client programs and server technologies is necessary to achieve the best integration of Microsoft Office and SharePoint features.

Read the complete “Business Productivity at Its Best: Microsoft Office and Microsoft SharePoint” white paper.

Microsoft Office Excel 2007 Add-In: Chart Advisor

Did you know that Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 contains more than 200 Office Excel 2007 reports with refreshable data that you can generate and modify quickly?

Now there’s a new add-in for Excel, Chart Advisor, that generates various charts for you based on the properties of your data. Chart Advisor ranks the recommendations based on their charts scores and displays them in a new dialog.

How many times a day do you use Microsoft Office Excel?

Microsoft Office Excel is the most widely used Office tool in the United States. According to a survey conducted by Xavier University’s Williams College of Business, people in a business setting use Excel 35% of the time they spend at work regardless of role.

It is clear that companies value and depend on Excel; however, very little emphasis is ever put on training Excel users. When asked how much training they had received, 35% of respondents indicated that they had received no formal training on Excel and only 14% of respondents had received some level of advanced training.

Socius, an Ohio Business Intelligence Software partner, can help you bridge the Excel training gap in your company.

Later this month, we are offering a 2-hour Excel 2007 Basics training class in each of our three locations: Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland. Following each of the Basics classes, we are offering a 6-hour Excel 2007 – Business Intelligence 101 training class during which we will teach you how to connect live business data and present the information in various forms including reports, charts, process maps, and dashboards. Get dates, times, and costs for this training here.
